Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to procure 204 million vaccine doses against Covid-19 for the next year. This corresponds to a supply of more than two doses per inhabitant of products made by several manufacturers and, according to the Federal Ministry of Health, that will ensure that protection against mutations increase, due to the fact that delivery failures are cushioned. The cost is a little less than 4 billion euros.
In addition, Spahn plans to source 31.8 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and 18.3 million doses from Johnson & Johnson, as well as 70 million doses from other manufacturers such as Sanofi. Curevac is not included in the plans. The Central Institute of Statutory Health Insurance praised the plans, saying that they would put an end to the vaccine shortage and ensure reliable supplies to the contracted doctor’s practices in 2022.
