Shortage of workers, skilled professionals, and apprentices

(GermanPolicy.com) – There is a shortage of skilled workers in around 70 professions, particularly in the MINT professions: mathematics, IT, natural sciences and technology. The Federal Employment Agency warned that there was a shortage of 800,000 skilled workers and a total of 1.2 million workers.

The Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises took the news as an opportunity to demand more efforts towards immigration of qualified workers. According to the association, almost 60,000 apprenticeship positions were vacant at the beginning of 2020, which did not benefit the competitiveness of Germany, especially with regard to medium-sized companies.
