(GermanPolicy.com) – In its final declaration, the World Climate Conference has called on all countries to turn down the use of coal. In Glasgow, Scotland, the countries also agreed to recommend that subsidies for the fossil fuels oil, gas and coal be abolished. The goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era was retained.
The German government announced that it would increase aid for poorer countries with respect to climate protection. The International Adaptation Fund is to be increased by 50 million Euros, said the State Secretary in the Federal Environment Ministry, Jochen Flasbarth. Mikko Ollikainen, who heads the Adjustment Fund, spoke of Germany as the greatest supporter of his institution. The German Development Ministry announced that it would make an additional 100 million Euros available to be used in the NDCF fund.
Meanwhile, Chancellor Angela Merkel has called protests by young people for more climate protection as justified. Climate policy is still going too slowly, she explained.
