Commission to ensure fewer members for the Bundestag

(GermanPolicy.com) – The Bundestag has decided on Thursday that a commission will be set up to prepare a reform of the electoral law. The Bundestag aims to reduce the number of members in the German Parliament. The standard size of the Bundestag has so far been 598 MPs. Due to transitional and compensatory mandates, there are 736 parliamentarians in the current Bundestag. In addition to the reform of the electoral law, the commission should examine, among other things, lowering the voting age to the age of 16 and extending the legislative period on the federal level.
