New minimum wage from October

(GermanPolicy.com) – This Wednesday, the German Bundestag will probably decide to increase the minimum wage to twelve euros. The newly determined amount will be applicable law from 1 October. The lower wage limit is currently EUR 9.82. On July 1, the minimum wage will rise to EUR 10.45.

The coalition is working on greater relief for citizens, explained Federal Labor Minister Heil (SPD). The increase is not an attack on collective bargaining, he added, saying that rather, people deserved a higher minimum wage. For many employees, the new minimum wage represents a wage increase of 22 percent. The Minimum Wage Commission will again be responsible for increases after October 1st.
