Electricity price should fall thanks to lower surcharge

(GermanPolicy.com) – The EEG surcharge will be abolished on July 1st of the current year – instead of in 2023. That was decided by the German Bundestag. This means that citizens are benefiting with the greatest electricity price relief in many decades, as commented by the Greens economic politician Krischer. The savings are to be fed with 6.6 billion euros from the federal budget. Previously, the surcharge was 3.72 cents per kilowatt hour. CDU politician König said that further steps must be taken quickly so that there is no zero-sum game. In addition to the traffic light parties, the CDU-CSU and the Left Group voted for the reduction. Federal Finance Minister Lindner (FDP) tweeted that the broad center of the population would be relieved.
