Özdemir speaks out against parts of the EU agricultural reform

(de-news.net) – Federal Agriculture Minister Özdemir has criticized the weakening of environmental regulations for farmers as being too far-reaching. Relief and reductions in bureaucracy should not neglect environmental protection, said the Green politician. He spoke out in favor of adjusting the plans.

According to the reform plans out of Brussels, the obligation to set aside parts of the arable area should no longer apply, for example. Small businesses should no longer be subject to controls, applying to farms under ten hectares. The start of application for most relief – one should also mention rules on crop rotation – is scheduled for 2025. Deutsche Umwelthilfe criticized that the EU Commission was not committed to an eco-social agricultural transition.
