FDP backs Union parties’ plans on asylum, calls for enhanced deportation detention

(de-news.net) – FDP leader Christian Lindner has reaffirmed his party’s willingness to support the Union’s asylum policy proposals in the Bundestag, stating that CDU and CSU measures rightfully aim to limit illegal migration. He urged SPD and Greens to reconsider their stance and support the proposals, suggesting that payments of development aid be tied to countries’ willingness to accept deported refugees. CDU and CSU demand border rejections of asylum seekers and detention of those required to leave Germany, which SPD and Greens reject as unconstitutional.

In another development, following the fatal stabbing in Aschaffenburg on 22 January, the FDP proposes “enhanced deportation detention” for criminal refugees, ensuring immediate imprisonment without probation for those convicted. FDP Vice Chairman Kuhle emphasized that positive social prognosis should not apply to those without a permanent residence perspective in Germany.
