(de-news.net) – CDU leader Merz has emphasized the intention to promptly initiate coalition talks with the SPD following the Union parties’ election victory, aiming to form a functional government with a parliamentary majority. Merz identified foreign and security policy, migration, and economic issues as key discussion points, alongside revisiting electoral law adjustments. The Union is pressing for swift negotiations to establish a new government by Easter, emphasizing the urgency due to significant challenges. CSU General Secretary Huber criticized the current electoral law besides stressing the need to address migration, economic, and security issues.
Meanwhile, SPD representatives expressed reservations about forming a coalition, with Dirk Wiese of the Seeheimer Kreis outlining conditions for negotiations based on core social-democratic priorities. The overall focus remains on addressing the electorate’s trust and confronting the rise of the AfD, Wiese added.
