(de-news.net) – Following the agreement between the Union and SPD on a new financial package for defense and infrastructure, the Green Party has expressed its intention to review the proposals while emphasizing the necessity of a comprehensive reform of the debt brake. Green Party leader Franziska Brantner highlighted that the proposals could not proceed without their support and stressed that sustainable solutions required prompt reform to ensure security, freedom, and investments in climate protection, economic growth, and modern infrastructure. Brantner criticized CDU leader Friedrich Merz and CSU leader Markus Söder for previously opposing credit-financed investments in security and infrastructure, only to now advocate for them.
Meanwhile, Green Bundestag member Anton Hofreiter called for amendments to the financial plans, pointing out the omission of critical security issues such as cyber defense and satellite independence. Hofreiter further argued for the inclusion of economic transformation and climate protection in medium-term plans.
