Special session of the Bundestag on the financial package

(de-news.net) – This Thursday, the Bundestag convenes in a special session to deliberate on the financial package proposed by the Union and SPD. This initiative seeks to establish a debt-financed special fund amounting to 500 billion euros for infrastructure development and to amend the constitutionally enshrined debt brake to facilitate increased defense expenditure.

The enactment of this constitutional amendment requires a two-thirds majority, necessitating collaboration between the Union, SPD, and either the Greens or FDP, both of which have introduced alternative legislative proposals. The final vote on these measures is slated for the forthcoming Tuesday.

Concurrently, the AfD and the Left Party have lodged a complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court, contending that the rights of newly elected members of parliament are compromised. In the prospective composition of the Bundestag, achieving a two-thirds majority would necessitate the endorsement of either the AfD or the Left Party.
