Police Union proposes a special fund for internal security

(de-news.net) – Jochen Kopelke, the Chair of the Police Union (GdP), has emphasized the necessity for greater support for law enforcement during the ongoing coalition negotiations. He expressed concerns regarding unresolved issues surrounding the funding of internal security and the recruitment of personnel to address new responsibilities. Kopelke also highlighted legal ambiguities in border control operations, which complicate enforcement efforts. Despite these challenges, he acknowledged progress in the negotiations between CDU/CSU and SPD, noting significant alignment on matters pertinent to police officers.

Kopelke advocated for concrete financial commitments, proposing the establishment of a special fund for internal security. He suggested that investment funds could also serve as a viable solution, contingent upon innovative fiscal policies. He finally identified a pressing need for modernization, particularly in the utilization of artificial intelligence.
