SPD’s vote on coalition agreement welcomed by Union parties

(de-news.net) – The CDU and CSU have welcomed the SPD’s positive member vote on the coalition agreement. Friedrich Merz, the designated Federal Chancellor (CDU), stated on social media that the decision is the right one for the country. He emphasized that the broad approval demonstrates the political center’s ability to act and its readiness to take responsibility. Markus Söder, the CSU leader, also expressed his support for the vote, calling for a genuine shift in Germany’s direction, including lower energy costs, reduced bureaucracy, increased border controls, rejections at borders, and an end to voluntary admission programs.

According to the SPD in Berlin, nearly 85% of the SPD members voted in favor of the coalition agreement draft during an online survey, with a participation rate of 56%. The survey concluded at midnight on Tuesday. The SPD, as the junior partner of CDU and CSU, plans to announce its cabinet members by the upcoming Monday. SPD Chairman Lars Klingbeil, who is set to become the future Finance Minister, aims to advance key projects of his party, particularly a multi-billion investment package for infrastructure. This was outlined in a letter to the SPD parliamentary group, with Klingbeil emphasizing the importance of the Finance Ministry in the implementation of such initiatives.

The CDU and CSU had already approved the coalition agreement in recent days and named their ministers for the cabinet under the future Chancellor Merz who is scheduled to be elected Chancellor on Tuesday.
