An expansion of the statutory pension system: just an idea, Klüssendorf says

(de-news.net) – The German Civil Servants’ Association has rejected Federal Labor Minister Bas’s proposal to integrate civil servants into the statutory pension system, arguing that such a measure would not resolve any issues within the pension fund. Volker Geyer, the association’s deputy chairman, advocated for financing non-insurance-related benefits, such as parental pensions, through tax revenue instead.

On the other hand, Gundula Roßbach, President of the German Pension Insurance Federation, emphasized that incorporating civil servants into the statutory pension system would be a prolonged and complex process requiring careful planning. She instead called for the swift inclusion of self-employed individuals.

Bas’s remarks sparked controversy within the coalition, particularly facing opposition from the Union party. Interim SPD General Secretary Klüssendorf downplayed the proposal, characterizing it as a conceptual approach to broadening perspectives rather than a concrete legislative initiative.
