(de-news.net) – Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) is set to present a draft bill to the cabinet on Wednesday, advocating for the repeal of the accelerated naturalization process implemented by the traffic light coalition, which currently allows integrated immigrants to obtain citizenship after a mere three years of residency.
According to media reports, Dobrindt characterized the expedited naturalization following a three-year residence period as an erroneous policy, affirming that its discontinuation is now imperative. He underscored that German citizenship should represent the culmination of a comprehensive and successful integration process rather than serve as its initial stage.
Furthermore, he reportedly expressed the expectation that the legislative change would contribute to a decline in the influx of asylum seekers. He contended that the existing accelerated naturalization framework has inadvertently fostered incentives for irregular migration, thereby necessitating corrective measures to attenuate such “pull factors.” Additionally, Dobrindt purportedly asserted that a three-year residency period in Germany is insufficient to facilitate substantive integration into the nation’s socio-cultural fabric.
