Minister Reiche proposes ‘Agenda 2030’ to revitalize economy

(de-news.net) – Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche has proposed a sweeping realignment of Germany’s economic strategy in light of the country’s ongoing financial challenges. In a keynote address, the CDU politician emphasized that the government must refocus on its essential responsibilities—specifically infrastructure development, educational advancement, and both domestic and international security—to regain its capacity for effective governance.

Central to Reiche’s proposal is the introduction of a comprehensive ‘Agenda 2030,’ a strategic framework aimed at overhauling existing economic mechanisms. She called for a rigorous reassessment of subsidies and public support programs, advocating for the elimination of inefficiencies and misaligned incentives, even if doing so entails political costs. Reiche underscored the seriousness of the current economic climate and stressed the urgency of reducing bureaucratic constraints to foster a more dynamic and innovative business environment.

The minister also criticized Germany’s comparatively high energy costs, arguing that elevated electricity and gas prices undermine the country’s global competitiveness. She reiterated the importance of reforming the welfare system to ensure its long-term sustainability and once again voiced her support for extending the working lifespan of citizens as part of broader structural reforms designed to future-proof the economy.
