Dear Network,
Our project comprising political and economic news about Germany in English – GermanPolicy.com – has in 2025 again been attracting a good number of visits. As far as the overall statitstics of this most popular project under the roof of de-news.net go, Google Insights show 178,000 page impressions over a period of 365 days. This would indicate 14,800 views per month and, hence, about 500 views per day on average. However, readers will likely be more numerous recently since the mass of readers has, during the past months, been on the rise. On the downside, many page impressions may result from web crawling.
What technical means have been used to access our articles? The most-used operating system to surf the GermanPolicy.com news was Windows (60 percent) followed by IOS (15 percent). In the first months of the year, Android phones represented most devices used to surf our project site – after which desktop PCs. However, over the course of the year, 90 percent of searches altogether were carried out via desktop PCs, followed by smartphones, turning the overall trend around. The share in the category of of desktop PCs was about 4 to 1 if one compares Microsoft Windows with Apple OS.
Google Chrome represents the most-used browser throughout the year, with almost 70 percent of users who visited GermanPolicy.com in 2025 relying on the software, followed by the open-source Firefox and by Microsoft Edge.
Searches via Google and ChatGPT
Regarding the search engines that have been employed, Google reunited 70 percent in comparison to other search machines which found GermanPolicy.com. However, ChatGPT has lately been catching up – with a quarter of the number of search queries carried out via this generative AI service – as compared to Google – within the year. According to numbers by Microsoft Bing’s Webmaster Tools, 9,100 search queries led to GermanPolicy.com in 2025. Bing also mentions the most-used search strings, which are “news from Germany,” “Germanynews” as well as “German news.”
Among countries that people visited GermanPolicy.com from after being referred by Google, according to data provided by our WordPress plugin, Germany ranges on top in Europe, followed by the UK. Outside the USA, China is most prominent. However, those numbers are incomplete, as shown by other statistical plugins. On Bing, then, the ranking according to countries showcased the US in the first position, followed by Germany, UK, Canada, China, France, as well as Japan.
Advertising no more – but audios as a standard
Between summer and fall, we experimented with publicity as a complementary source of revenue, using Google Ads. However, the desired threshold was not met. In order to guarantee user satisfaction, we came to the decision to take down all ads in the beginning of the fourth season.
As an added service and to service the user experience, during the past weeks, we have come to use two types of audio representation: one, relying on Text to Speech, reading out our articles as they were written. (We express our thanks for the chance to use the service.) Another tool, which we use for more complex topics, engages in a debate between two readers who break down the subject matter in an analytic yet understandable manner. The latter audios are provided by Google Gemini, which we would hereby like to express our thanks to as well.
Finally, Bing PageSpeed Insights shows a great performance towards the end of December. This is good news, as pages were down for three days in 2025 and as we were subject to denial-of-service attacks and other forms of hacking more than once these past 12 months.
We appreciate your support and your readership as we continue our journalistic project, delivering a selection of the most significant news about Germany in the English language.
Sincerely,
Thorsten Koch, MA, PgDip
