(de-news.net) – The digital ministers of the German Länder have agreed on measures to modernize public administration, accelerate digital business services, strengthen data protection practices, and expand digital infrastructure, including cloud capacity and broadband networks.
At their fifth conference in Hamburg, Germany’s state digital ministers adopted a series of resolutions intended to simplify and modernize digital public administration across the country. According to the Brandenburg Digital Ministry, the meeting concentrated on advancing the Federal Modernization Agenda, accelerating procedures for business formation, expanding high-performance digital infrastructure, and improving the practical and legally secure application of data protection rules within administrative processes.
Brandenburg Digital Minister Benjamin Grimm of the SPD emphasized that digital administration should make everyday interactions between citizens and government authorities more efficient by reducing paperwork requirements and enabling faster administrative decisions. Within this framework, the Federal Modernization Agenda is intended to gradually establish “digital only” procedures as the standard approach for public services. At the same time, policymakers stressed that individuals with limited digital knowledge or restricted access to digital technologies should continue to be able to access administrative services without disadvantage or exclusion.
Ministers call for greater clarity in data protection rules
Alongside these broader modernization efforts, the “Founding a Company in 24 Hours” initiative is intended to simplify and accelerate the business creation process by enabling applications and administrative procedures to be bundled and completed through integrated digital systems. The participating states also advocated greater legal clarity and stronger operational certainty in the implementation of data protection regulations, while maintaining existing safeguards for personal and sensitive information. The discussion therefore reflected an effort to balance administrative efficiency and innovation with the continued protection of individual privacy rights.
In addition, the ministers endorsed measures aimed at strengthening Germany’s position as a location for sovereign, high-capacity data centers capable of supporting digital economic activity and advanced cloud infrastructure. To support these objectives, planning and approval procedures for relevant infrastructure projects are expected to be accelerated further, while the continued expansion of fiber-optic broadband and mobile communications networks remains a central priority within the broader digital modernization strategy.
