SPD politicians in the fields of foreign policy and defense have criticized the party’s parliamentary group leader, Rolf Mützenich. In a meeting of Working Group I, most of the members voted against a German go-it-alone, which would mean that Germany stop the deployment of atomic bombs. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas also opposed such a move. As SPD foreign politician Christoph Matschie poined out: “We can only achieve disarmament if we develop a common position with our allies.”
