EU-China Summit postponed

Due to the Corona pandemic, the EU-China Summit, which was set to take place in Leipzig in mid-September, has been postponed. Government spokesman Seibert said that Chancellor Merkel had called Chinese President Xi Jinping and President of the European Council, Michel, to discuss the topic. A definite new date for the summit has yet to be set. The summit was supposed to include an agreement for an investment protection agreement.

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized during the telephone call with Chancellor Angela Merkel that China was ready to work with Germany and the EU to tackle global challenges together.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI), Joachim Lang, has expressed concern about the atmosphere in world trade and called for a critical but above all constructive dialogue. Lang said he hoped the investment protection agreement with China to be concluded in 2020.
