(GermanPolicy.com) – The social association VdK has criticized plans to increase contributions to statutory health insurance. Compensating for deficits in this way is currently sending a “completely wrong signal” and “socially unfair”, said the President of the VdK, Bentele, according to media reports. All people with low incomes would be unacceptably burdened in times of price increases. The VdK is in favor of a health insurance fund that the self-employed and civil servants also contribute to, and proposes raising the contribution assessment limit from 4,800 Euros to 7,050 Euros. There is also potential for savings at the cash registers. According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds, the statutory health insurance funds will lack around 17 billion Euros for 2023.
