Voluntary isolation in case of infection: Lauterbach defends withdrawal

(GermanPolicy.com) – Federal Minister of Health Lauterbach (SDP) has admitted a mistake in the proposal for a voluntary quarantine of people infected with Covid-19. Isolation would apply from May 1st. Lauterbach asked for the population to maintain their trust. “Corona is not a cold,” he said. Therefore, he pointed out that he wished to avoid a negative signal which would have come along with a non-mandatory isolation. The isolation should now continue to be ordered by the health authorities, which were originally intended to be relieved.

The proposal had been criticized by the opposition as well as by associations. The Medical Officer Association, for instance, had demanded that infected people continue to be quarantined. However, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians generally agreed to the proposal.
