Landlords against partial assumption of CO2 costs

(GermanPolicy.com) – The Haus & Grund owners’ association has spoken out against the tiered model approved by the Federal Cabinet, based on which the CO2 costs are to be shared between tenants and landlords – depending on the climate-friendliness of the property. “Landlords now also have to pay for the tenants’ hot showers. That’s no motivation to renovate,” said association president Kai Warnecke and warned against financial speculation if renting is no longer worthwhile. According to the draft, tenants in very well insulated houses should still bear 100 percent of the surcharge themselves. The regulation is to apply as a whole from 2023.
