(GermanPolicy.com) – The Tenants’ Association has demanded that terminations to tenants be suspended because of late utility bill payments. Many landlords are demanding higher advance payments on heating costs after energy prices have recently risen sharply. The Haus und Grund owners’ association announced that the landlords were worried about the higher costs. “In our view, there should not be a moratorium on layoffs,” a spokesman said. Solutions should be found independently of political regulations.
Tenant association spokesperson Hartmann said the exact extent of the demands was still unclear. However, landlords would only be entitled to higher payments after billing, and not during the year. Tenants should, as far as possible, put money aside to be able to pay bills later, while landlords would have to allow six months to settle the bills.
