(de-news.net) – During a CDU party congress in Berlin, the Union has approved its ‘Immediate Program,’ which is to be implemented if the federal election is won. All delegates voted in favor in an open vote on Monday afternoon.
The program focuses on economic issues, with nine out of 15 points addressing this area. Measures include reducing electricity tax and network charges, lowering VAT on restaurant meals, and halving the number of government commissioners. The Union also plans to abolish the heating law and reintroduce agricultural diesel rebates.
The second part of the program addresses migration and security issues. The CDU promises to introduce IP address storage to combat child sexual abuse, implement electronic ankle bracelets for violent offenders against women, and abolish the cannabis law. The program also includes party leader Friedrich Merz’s five-point plan to combat illegal migration and the so-called ‘Influx Limitation Act,’ which had caused a stir last week.
CDU leader and chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz emphasized the party’s readiness to lead Germany forward. General Secretary Carsten Linnemann stated that the party must clearly communicate what they would do better than others in the remaining 20 days before the federal election.
CSU leader Markus Söder stressed that it is not just about a change of government but a new direction for Germany. He distanced himself from the AfD, stating that the Union parties are against any cooperation with the AfD and will fight them.
