(de-news.net) – The federal government has dismissed doubts regarding the charitable status of state-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This stance is outlined in the government’s response to a contentious inquiry by the Union parliamentary group. The response references a Federal Fiscal Court ruling affirming that charitable organizations may engage in political activities.
According to a government spokesperson, the response, delivered to the Union, emphasizes the value of civil society’s contributions to fostering a diverse and democratic coexistence while countering societal radicalization and polarization. The Union had posed 551 questions concerning state support for NGOs, citing protests by these organizations against the CDU/CSU. The demonstrations opposed a joint vote by the Union and AfD on a migration policy proposal in the Bundestag.
