Germany advances state modernization with digital wallet initiative, Amthor (CDU)

(de-news.net) – Prior to the publication of the final report by the ‘Initiative for a Capable State,’ Parliamentary State Secretary Philipp Amthor (CDU) emphasized the democratic significance of ongoing administrative reform. He highlighted the need to improve governmental efficiency, speed, and fiscal responsibility through bureaucratic reduction, emphasizing steady collaboration with federal states to ensure a unified public administration.

Amthor anticipated notable progress during the current legislative period and emphasized citizen-oriented digital accessibility. A key measure was the introduction of a digital wallet for accessing official documents such as identification cards and driver’s licenses.

Amthor added that effective inter-agency communication depended not on unifying over 10,000 software systems but on their interoperability. The Digital Ministry aimed to develop a central data platform connecting local and regional authorities. According to Amthor, streamlined processes allowing for one-time data submission and system-wide sharing were crucial for citizen engagement.
