(GermanPolicy.com) – Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) would like to win the ‘traffic light’ parties – SPD, Greens and FDP – for an alleviation of the electricity, gas and petrol prices. He also wants to turn to the CDU-CSU. The energy price shock must remain “manageable,” he said.
Specifically, Altmaier would like to abolish the EEG surcharge with immediate effect. The current perspective is to let the surcharge expire in four or five years. In a first step, the surcharge is expected to be lowered 2.18 cents, with still 3.72 cents to be paid per kilowatt hour. This share of the costs could already be abolished at the beginning with the new government in place, Altmaier suggested.
Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) would also like to relieve the citizens: by way of a reduction in taxes and charges on fuel, which currently cost drivers 60 cents. Should the cost of fuel rise to 2 Euros per liter, this is where the leverage can be applied, Scheuer pointed out.
